어린 시절부터 24년 동안 짝사랑해온 옆집 아가씨 앨리스가
대형 리무진을 굴리는 돈 많은 남자와 함께 집을 떠납니다.

마지막 순간잠시 앨리스와 눈길이 마주치지만, 그걸로 끝. 그녀를 태운 대형 리무진은서서히 눈앞에서 멀어져갑니다. 상심해있는 남자에게 또다른 여자친구 샐리가 전화를 걸어옵니다. 그리고 말합니다. 난 지난 24년 동안 널 기다려왔어....



[Living next door to Alice]는 스모키 그룹이 76년에 발표해서
유럽과 아시아 일대의 30여개 국가의 챠트를 석권하게 되면서 이전에
발표한 곡들까지 히트되는 기현상을 낳기도 했다고 한다. 허스키한 보이스로
호소력 짙은 매력을 발산하고있는 크리스 노먼과 다재다능한 멤버들의 연주는
이 곡의 감칠맛을 더해 주고 있어 많은 올드 팬들의 사랑을 받고 있다.



1966년 영국에서 결성된 [Smokie(스모키)]는
1970년대 후반에 발전적인 형태의 사이키델릭 팝으로
영국 차트를 여러 차례 강타하였다. [Elizabethans]라는 그룹에서 함께 연주하던  [Chris Norman(크리스 노만, 보컬)], [Terry Utley(테리 어틀리, 기타)],
[Alan Silson(앨런 실슨, 베이스)]은 드러머 [Pete Spencer(피트 스펜서)]와 함께
1968년 밴드 [Kindness(카인드니스)]를 결성하였다. 이 4인조 밴드는 1960년대 후반에서 1970년대 초반까지 상당한 양의
싱글을 발표하였으나 챠트에 오르지는 못했다.



1975년 이들은 [Smokey(스모키)]라는 이름으로 새로운 레코드사와
계약을 맺은 후 [If You Think You Know How to Love Me]라는 곡을
챠트 3위에 올려놓는 성공을 거둔다. 많은 세월이 흘렀음에도 불구하고 특히
이곡 [Living Next Door To Alice]는 우리나라에서 더 많이 히트한 곡으로
알려져 있으며 지금까지도 수많은 올드팝 팬들이 즐겨 듣는 명곡이다 .
